A Mercury Experience
In 2013 I discovered I was mercury toxic from amalgam fillings. It was never something I considered as I had never read previous concerns that this could occur. Once I found myself in this position, I was shocked to read the amount of illness it can be related to. I was further surprised that there is a great amount of information out there, but as its not widely publicised, I had to search for it. This was very time consuming and exhausting. However, the symptoms I ended up having were a great cause for
concern and so I had to persevere.
I had developed dizziness and tinnitus after extensive dental work in 2008. In the years that followed, the tinnitus became more constant and eventually louder at times. I had put it down to the dental drill due to the extent of work done. The dizziness was another matter as my father had dizzy spells in his 50's and the medical profession could not discover any cause for them. Around 60 years of age he started to have fluctuating moods at times and was retired from his work aged 64 due to Alzheimer's disease. So I kept an eye on the dizziness, waiting for the day that it became a cause for concern. That day happened in the summer of 2012. I was sitting at my kitchen table and I felt a sensation on the left side of my brain like something quickly unravelling. I tried to stand up and could not as the dizziness was so severe I staggered. I lay across my kitchen table until it passed and I made an appointment with my GP to discuss my concerns. However, Alzheimer's disease is not know to necessarily have dizzy symptoms before people present with memory impairment. A point which I knew and appreciated, so I continued to keep an eye on things. Having trained in Theta Healing, I stumbled across the fact that tinnitus can be associated with mercury poisoning in Vianna Stibal's book "Theta Healing" in November 2012. As my husband was poorly throughout that winter, I did not have time to act on it and it slipped my mind. Then by divine timing a client came to see me for a remedial issue who had tested positive for mercury toxicity and advised me of Andrew Hall Cutler's book which I ordered.
At this point I had a well filled tooth that was troubling me. I had an intermittent problem eating on that side of my mouth for 5 years since previous dental work was done, which was put down to my bite. Now I came to the point were I could not eat on it all and, believe it or not, I stared to get problems with my memory. I could not remember the name of a friend's niece which I knew I knew. There was also a situation at work were I needed someone's name and I needed to act on it somehow. It took 48 hours for me to recall the guy's name and act on it and that's about all I can tell you, because as soon as I did, the whole episode was wiped from my memory. When Andrew Cutler's book arrived, I was horrified to read that symptoms I had going as far back as my teens were all related to mercury poisoning. These included gyn problems; a rhuematoid arthritis presentation which remained unconfirmed as blood tests were fine; chest pain; palpitations; tachycardia which presented within six months of extensive dental work; dizziness; tinnitus. I also had itchy flaky ears, always felt cold and had cold hands, insignificant things in their own right. however are known symptoms of mercury toxicity. I had been emotionally temperamental at periods in my life which I put down to other circumstances, but once I started a detox I discovered it was related to the mercury burden in my body. In the past few years I developed blurred distant vision and overall deterioration in my eyesight and sensitive teeth. Of course the vision is put down to age and sensitive teeth can be regarded as common, but again they are both symptoms of mercury toxicity. Last but not least I came to realise I had experienced symptoms which can occur in what is known as the prodromal phase of dementia.
Regarding these symptoms I decided to treat the joint pain as a sensitivity and removed additives from my diet. It took about 2 years, but I ended up pain free and only ever had occasional episodes of rheumatic pain which could be years apart and again bloods were fine. I was referred to hospital for the chest pain, palpitations and tachycardia. I put it down to going back to drinking coffee. I stopped this, increased my water intake and eventually the symptoms settled. This is significant as some people who are mercury toxic will be sensitive to many other things. Coffee is also in the group of thiol foods which are known to worsen symptoms. My point is I had no significant long term illness, only passing symptoms which in themselves meant nothing. The increase in tinnitus was the symptom that made me look into this.
I panicked as I discovered that it can be difficult to test for, however, at that point I found someone who referred me for a Kelmer test. This came back positive for mercury levels greater than the norm. Unfortunately from 56 hours after the test was done, my symptoms returned and symptoms which had previously settled flared up. It started with dementia symptoms of being unable to retrieve words. I was disoriented to my surroundings as my husband and I were having a short break away. After staying at a hotel for 48 hours, I went the wrong way in trying to locate the ladies room without a clue that I was going in the wrong direction. My joints flared up to the same extent that they had when this first presented when I was 24, only worse, as my knees, ankles and toes were also affected as well as elbows, wrists, hands and fingers. I had one episode of palpitations, mild chest pain returned and the dizziness was so severe the room appeared to be moving. This lasted a few days accompanied by brain fog, forgetting what I was meant to be doing if I went into a room and having to retrace my steps. Some mild difficulty spelling and general slowness lasted for a few weeks The reason for this was the chelating agent used for the test pulled the mercury and I subsequently reabsorbed it making me quite ill. Although I'd had the memory difficulties at the time of the troublesome tooth, I had still at that point felt well. Mercury is a poison silently reeking havoc in the body and I only felt ill once it was being mobilised. I then looked for a road to recovery.
If you have any concern about this issue please don't dismiss it. I would urge you to consider the fact that its not just the symptoms you may have now that you should be concerned about, but the symptoms you could end up with as mercury is a cumulative poison that will not leave your body without help. It will accumulate in various areas giving unrelated symptoms. I went from gyn problems to dementia as I was being slowly poisoned over a 40 year period with the other health issues in between.
